ABOUT TIMBERSHED

RFS’s latest co-authored report “Assessing the Viability of Wood Recovery and Utilization in Sonoma County” has confirmed that counties with significant forest resources require adequate infrastructure to effectively manage wood resources for positive social, environmental and economic outcomes. In Sonoma County, infrastructure and workforce are lacking to meet forest health and wildfire resilience goals.

To address this need, RFS’s key focus in 2025 is implementing the report’s recommendations that reflect the priorities of key stakeholders by revitalizing wood processing infrastructure presently available in western Sonoma County.

Our work will implement Timbershed with our partners, a vertically-integrated wood products campus and mass timber manufacturing facility. By doing so we will help realize local and state climate and wildfire resilience goals through increased capacity to manage our forests through revitalizing wood processing infrastructure and enabling a more vibrant wood-based bioeconomy.

NEXT STEPS

RFS is presently in the due diligence phase for the acquisition of Berry’s Sawmill in Cazadero, CA. If successful the site will become the new location of Timbershed with a focus on forest restoration and climate smart wood product manufacturing.
