ABOUT TIMBERSHED
RFS’s latest co-authored report “Assessing the Viability of Wood Recovery and Utilization in Sonoma County” has confirmed that counties with significant forest resources require adequate infrastructure to effectively manage wood resources for positive social, environmental and economic outcomes. In Sonoma County, infrastructure and workforce are lacking to meet forest health and wildfire resilience goals.
To address this need, RFS’s key focus in 2025 is implementing the report’s recommendations that reflect the priorities of key stakeholders. This entails revitalizing wood processing infrastructure and uplifting existing wood utilization entities.
Toward these goals, Timbershed and its partners are working to establish a vertically-integrated wood products campus and mass timber manufacturing facility in Sonoma County. By doing so we will help realize improved capacity to meet local and state wildfire resilience goals through a more vibrant wood-based bioeconomy.
NEXT STEPS
RFS is presently in the due diligence phase for the acquisition of Berry’s Sawmill in Cazadero, CA. If successful the site will become Timbershed’s flagship campus with a focus on forest restoration and wood product manufacturing.
