Support Forest Stewardship & Responsible

Wood Products in Sonoma County

Sonoma County’s forests are in crisis. They are overcrowded, stressed by drought and disease, and increasingly at risk of catastrophic wildfire. Proactive, environmentally-responsible management, such as the careful thinning of smaller trees, is needed to reduce fire risk and improve forest health to return our forests to the diverse, fire-adapted state they once were.

When forests are thinned for forest health and community safety, or natural disasters occur, large volumes of wood are oftentimes generated that usually get burned, chipped, or hauled to the dump. These practices waste a potentially valuable local resource that can have higher and better uses. Additionally, if recovery and utilization are realized, the value of this wood could be used to help offset the costs of caring for our forests for generations to come.

There is a better way. We believe in a circular forest stewardship economy, one that restores forest health, improves water quality and quantity, reduces wildfire risk, creates good local jobs, and keeps value in our region.
